Harry’s Chair

Modern upholstered chair in ripple ash.

The chance to make a David Savage chair, at his workshop in Devon guided by his senior maker Daren Millman, was one I grabbed when it came. David Savage has a considerable pedigree in extreme and quirky chair designs, but this was one of his more sedate numbers.

It was an opportunity to use their extremely well equipped machine room as well as a full set of jigs, along with a very precise ‘cabinet makers’ approach to the challenges of chair making. I was also lucky that the ash selected turned out to have a distinct ripple throughout the plank – spectacular. So to finish it off, I upholstered it with a vivid ‘Kermit’ green faux leather.
